Hadley and Capitol Hill Hospitals Combine to Become the District’s Largest Provider of Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) Services
WASHINGTON – December 1, 2006 – Specialty Hospitals of America, LLC has acquired Hadley Memorial Hospital, a 145-bed facility located in the South East section of Washington, D.C. The facility, which has been renamed Specialty Hospitals of Washington – Hadley (SHW-Hadley), is comprised of two distinct service areas: a Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) hospital and a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF).
SHW-Hadley joins Specialty Hospitals of Washington –Capitol Hill, an LTAC and SNF property that SHA acquired in November 2005 and has subsequently redeveloped to better serve the needs of the D.C. medical community. LTAC facilities treat patients who need extended periods of high level nursing care; frequently these patients also require specialized medical treatments such as ventilator therapy. “SHA is committed to a model of LTAC operation that focuses on patients with medically complex needs, and we are making the investments in technology enable us to fulfill this mission,” said SHA Chairman Eric Rieseberg. SHA is now the District’s largest provider of LTAC services.
“We are actively reaching out to physicians throughout the greater D.C. area to demonstrate that SHW-Hadley, and its sister hospital SHW-Capitol Hill, will carry out the post-surgical care they prescribe to the highest standards,” explains Susan Bailey, vice president of SHA/Mid-Atlantic, “We are in a position to deliver a level of nursing care that not only feels more compassionate but results in improved patient outcomes across the board.”
The Specialty Hospital of Washington – Hadley Skilled Nursing Facility offers the highest level of care for residents in a setting that is convenient for local family members to visit. Therapies can include highly specific medical treatments and counseling as well as recreational programming and outings.
SHA is currently pursuing additional acquisitions and development opportunities in other states. The company is headquartered in Portsmouth, N.H.; the two Washington, D.C. hospitals are SHW-Capitol Hill, at 700 Constitution Avenue, NE, and SHW-Hadley, which is located at 4601 M.L. King Avenue, SE.
