James Terry Joins Specialty Hospitals of Washington – Hadley

WASHINGTON – Dec. 11, 2006 - The Specialty Hospital of Washington-Hadley (SHW-Hadley) announces the appointment of James (Jim) Terry as chief financial officer (CFO). SHW-Hadley is a long term acute care (LTAC) hospital which was recently acquired by Specialty Hospitals of America, LLC (SHA).

Mr. Terry comes to SHW-Hadley from Texas where he was the CFO for Triumph Hospital, located in East Houston. His experience includes start-up operations for the Triumph Healthcare chain of hospitals and previous employers. “We are extremely pleased that Jim has joined the SHA team here in Washington, D.C.,” said Dennis Falck, SHW-Hadley’s chief executive officer, “His expertise in managing hospital finances will enable us to grow and care for more patients, and offer a good working environment for our medical and support staff.”

SHA’s LTAC mission is to be a Focused Center of Medical Excellence (FCME), a business model promulgated by Harvard Business School Professor Regina Herzlinger as a way to way to encourage and enable doctors and staff to concentrate on and develop extraordinary expertise in specialty areas which leads to improved patient care and fiscal stability. In the case of an LTAC, patients who need high levels of nursing and medically-specific equipment receive the care they need, and it opens up emergency room and intensive care space at other hospitals for patients who have more dynamic conditions.

“As a hospital CFO I am pleased to be working in this innovative and focused area of healthcare,” said Terry. “Our mission is to focus on patients who need continued high level care; and by doing so we provide them with the best possible health outcomes. This also helps the hospitals that send patients to us, by allowing them to operate more efficiently and better serve the community.”

SHA develops and operates LTAC hospitals, a specialized category of healthcare facilities that focus on caring for patients with medically complex needs that require a high level of nursing and specialized medical technology. SHA is headquartered in Portsmouth, N.H.; the two Washington, D.C. hospitals are SHW-Capitol Hill, at 700 Constitution Avenue, NE, and SHW-Hadley, which is located at 4601 M.L. King Avenue, SE.
